Due to Covid-19 and Government lockdown restrictions, visits to our boathouses to view our two lifeboats are not currently possible.
However, for any groups meeting remotely at this time, we can offer a virtual tour of our station, led by our coxswain, with additional details of the important water safety messages. These presentations can be tailored to your needs - please contact our Visits Officer to discuss this if it may be of interest; email@example.com
A visit to our very impressive Offshore Lifeboat Station is not to be missed once Covid-19 restrictions allow. For individual visits once we re-open to the general public, just walk down to the boathouse when its open (see below for opening times) - a volunteer member of the Guild will be on duty to explain things and answer any questions. For School or Group visits please get in touch with our visits officer - Deborah Meadows who can be contacted on 01983 874408; alternatively either e-mail her direct firstname.lastname@example.org or e-mail email@example.com with your details and they will be forwarded.
School Visits (temporarily not possible - see note above a Virtual Tour)
A visit to Bembridge Lifeboat Station certainly provides the ‘wow’ factor. From our magnificent Tamar Class All-weather and brand new D-class inshore boats, to the fabulous architecture of the new offshore boathouse and the stunning views from the boathouse windows, there is plenty to interest young minds at our station. Group visits are always welcome at any time to suit your convenience, during the day, in the evening, or at the weekend. Whether you are looking for a purely recreational visit, or if you wish to gear your experience to a particular theme, we can cater for your needs.
From our team of highly experienced volunteer guides, we can offer presentations tailored to your requirements; Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 science (floating and sinking, materials etc), Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 history (background of the RNLI or our local station), aspects of Personal, Social, Citizenship, Health Education and Economics (PSCHEE), and Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 numeracy and literacy, also can each be accommodated if required.
Booking for group visits is advisable throughout the year, so we can ensure your visit is personalised to your individual needs; it is essential during the months of the summer term in order to avoid double booking. Depending on your choice of theme for your visit, tours usually take between 45 and 60 minutes. There is disabled access to the public viewing areas of the station; public conveniences can be found adjacent to our offshore walkway and our small RNLI shop can be opened for you at your request, selling a good range of souvenirs in the ‘pocket money’ price range. There is no entry fee to the station, and the guided tour is free, but donations to the RNLI are always welcome.
We look forward to welcoming you to Bembridge Lifeboat Station. In 2019 we were delighted to have been able to host over 3,000 children in school or group visits. Bookings already taken prior to the Covid-19 lockdown suggested an even greater number would have been visiting during 2020. Hopefully we will be back to a 'new' normal by the autumn so do get your applications for 2021 in early to avoid disappointment. In the meantime, if you would like a Virtual tour of Bembridge RNLI then please contact me firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss how this can be set up.
