Although something of a non-event, RNLB Alfred Albert Williams (Tamar All-Weather Lifeboat 16-17) launched at 15:15 following a request from UK Coastguard to assist a racing yacht that had been reported as having grounded on Bembridge Ledge.
A number of yachts in the vicinity of the Ledge were checked and having quickly concluded that none were in any trouble, the Alfred Albert Williams returned to the Boathouse and was recovered by 16:10.
RNLB Alfred Albert Williams (Tamar All-Weather Lifeboat 16-17) was launched at 22:20 this evening at the request of Solent CG to help locate the source of a 406Mhz EPIRB distress alert that had been received at 21:53 from a US registered 14m sailing yacht the 'Otra Vez'.
Visibility was very poor (approx 10m) so progress to the position 2nm east of Seaview which had been received in the automated distress alert was quite slow. However just before starting an expanding box search, Solent CG advised that they had located the 'Otra Vez' in Cowes and that the alert had been confirmed as a false alarm.
The Alfred Albert Williams therefore returned to the Offshore Boathouse and was recovered by 23:30.
