We were requested to launch by Solent MRSC after a member of the public had reported that two small sailing dinghies were in difficulties off Seaview, the local coastguard had been dispatched to spring vale road and confirmed that assistance was required.
On launching the ILB made best speed arriving on-scene to find the two dinghies secured together unable to make much headway, the two occupants were transferred to the ILB, and the vessels towed into Bembridge Harbour where they we met by the local coastguards.
On completion the ILB returned to station was recovered and made ready for service again by 21:36
We were requested to launch by Solent MRSC to assist a sailing vessel that had run aground on Bembridge Ledge.
Arriving on-scene we found the yacht just afloat with its keel bouncing on the ledge and the tide ebbing quite fast, the towline having been already laid out was passed and once secured the casualty was towed free. After through checks were made of the hull and keel bolts the casualty was left to continue with his passage to Guernsey via Cherbourg.On completion the Lifeboat returned to station but due to the state of the tide was berthed in Bembridge Harbour until 10:15 when it was taken back out and recovered and made ready for service again by 10:45
We were requested to launch by Solent MRSC at 18:56 to assist a 32’sailing vessel that had lost its rudder 5 cables to the west of the Warner buoy.
On launching the lifeboat made best speed arriving on-scene to find the casualty was drifting with its sails down, a crewman was transferred across with the rope from the drogue which once secured was steamed out and set, the lifeboat then was manoeuvred close by the towline passed, and once secured the casualty was towed back into Chichester Harbour.
Once inside the harbour the casualty was brought up alongside and whist being secured the drogue was recovered she was then manoeuvred into a berth at sparks marina.
On completion the lifeboat returned to station was recovered and made ready for service again by 22:45
We were requested to launch at 16:45 by Solent MRSC to assist the angling vessel Sea Fox that had issue a Pan Pan broadcast indicating that it had fouled its propeller and rudder south of the Nab Tower.
On launching and making best speed it was established that the casualty had managed to free itself and was now underway with the vessel making 12 knots, after discussions with the casualty and Solent it was agreed that our assistance was no longer required and we returned to station.
We were requested to launch by Solent MRSC to assist the “Wight Diver” that had issued a Pan Pan broadcast after suffering drive failure with nine divers in the water SE of Dunnose Point.
The lifeboat made best speed and learning on-route that the casualty was drifting and the divers were due to surface at 11:05, a broadcast by Solent asking for any vessel in the area was acknowledged by the Customs launch "Valiant" which was proceeding as was the vessel “Slow Sun”. The “Slow Sun” was soon on-scene and spotted two divers, the “Valiant” having arrived launched its RIB and picked up seven, we picked up the two close by the "Slow Sun" and the RIB came alongside and transferred their divers across.Once all divers were acocounted for we made our way to the “Wight Diver’s” position and once secured alongside transferred across our mechanic to assess the fault and the divers with all their gear, the other three were brought across by the RIB and transferred across.
It was established that the morse cable to the gear shift had snapped, but drive was possible so the engine was started ahead gear was selected manually and having recovered our mechanic we escorted the casualty into Langstone Harbour where once inside the casualties engine was stopped and brought up alongside the lifeboat, secured and manoeuvred into its berth. On completion the Lifeboat returned to station was recovered and made ready for service by 14:30
The ALB was asked to launch at 16:15 to assist the angling vessel “Happy Days” with engine failure south of the Nab Tower.
Arriving on-scene the lifeboat passed towline and the vessel was towed into Portsmouth Harbour and berthed in Gosport Marina.
On completion the lifeboat returned to Bembridge Harbour at 19:20 and was berthed at the BSC pontoon until 21:00 when it was taken out and recovered onto the beach at Silversands.
On the 3rd of June at 17:20 the ILB was requested to assist the angling vessel "Toucan" that had suffered engine failure to the east of Bembridge and was using an auxiliary engine. Arriving on-scene the ILB passed a towline and towed the vessel into Bembridge Harbour and safely berthed by 18:00
